Overview

Cryptohopper is the most flexible third-party trading bot on the market. Founded in 2017 by brothers Ruud and Pim Feltkamp, headquartered in Amsterdam, the platform serves the segment of the bot market that Pionex explicitly doesn’t: users who want deep customisation, custom strategy scripting, TradingView integration, and the ability to run bots against exchanges they already use rather than moving to a new exchange.

The core architecture is different from Pionex. Cryptohopper is not an exchange. You connect it via API to whichever exchange you’re already using (Binance, Kraken, Bybit, Coinbase, OKX, and others). Your funds stay on the exchange; Cryptohopper places trades through the API. You pay Cryptohopper a monthly subscription for the software, plus your usual exchange trading fees for each trade.

This means additional trust surface (Cryptohopper needs API access) and additional cost (subscription + trading fees). In exchange, you get vastly more flexibility than any exchange-native bot service.

The strategy engine

Cryptohopper’s strategy engine is genuinely powerful. Users can:

  • Build custom strategies using a visual configurator (30+ technical indicators, position sizing rules, entry/exit conditions)
  • Import TradingView alerts as trade triggers (this alone justifies the subscription for many users)
  • Subscribe to third-party signal providers via the marketplace
  • Copy successful traders’ strategies (with verifiable performance history)
  • Run backtests on historical data before deploying live

The TradingView integration is particularly strong. If you already use TradingView charts and Pine Script alerts, Cryptohopper is the natural way to convert those alerts into actual trades. Most competitors have weaker TradingView support.

The strategy marketplace

Unlike Pionex’s “bot templates” (which are essentially preset configurations), Cryptohopper hosts a strategy marketplace — 1,000+ strategies from independent traders with published performance histories. You can subscribe to a strategy, and your bot copies its trades in real time.

This is closer to a real copy-trading model, with the meaningful advantage that Cryptohopper’s marketplace requires verified performance history rather than paid promotion. Strategies with genuine long-term performance rise to the top; strategies with cherry-picked screenshots don’t get past the transparency requirements.

Marketplace strategies cost extra (typically $10-$50/month per strategy, on top of the Cryptohopper subscription). Whether this is worth it depends on the strategy’s real edge, which requires careful evaluation.

The exchange support

Cryptohopper connects to 15+ major exchanges via API:

  • Binance, Coinbase, Kraken, KuCoin, Bybit, OKX, Bitfinex, Bitstamp
  • Plus regional and smaller venues

API integration handles spot trading on all supported exchanges. Futures/derivatives support is present but varies by exchange.

Setup requires generating an API key on your exchange with trade permissions but not withdrawal permissions — this is a critical security detail. Cryptohopper only needs to execute trades, not move funds. Users who mistakenly grant withdrawal permission are exposing themselves to a level of risk Cryptohopper doesn’t require. Follow the setup guides carefully.

Pricing

Three tiers, monthly:

  • Pursuit — $19.99/month, 15 max simultaneous positions, basic features
  • Adventurer — $49/month, 80 positions, marketplace access, better AI features
  • Hero — $99/month, 500 positions, full features, priority support

7-day free trial on all tiers.

For serious users, Adventurer is the practical starting point — Pursuit’s position limit is too tight for meaningful diversification. Hero serves professional or high-capital users.

Where Cryptohopper wins

For users who want deep customisation — custom strategies, TradingView alerts, marketplace access, algorithmic experimentation — Cryptohopper is the clear pick. The strategy engine is more capable than any exchange-native bot service. The marketplace, when used judiciously, offers access to strategies from traders who wouldn’t otherwise share.

For users already using multiple exchanges, Cryptohopper’s ability to consolidate bot management across them is genuinely useful — you’re not forced to move funds to a specific exchange.

Where Cryptohopper loses

The subscription model adds real cost. $19.99/month is $240/year even before you factor in trading fees or marketplace subscriptions. Unless your bot activity is generating meaningful profit above this baseline, you’re paying to lose money more efficiently.

Complexity is real. Cryptohopper rewards users who put time into learning it. Users who just want “a bot that makes money while I sleep” will find the setup overwhelming and probably deploy poorly-tuned strategies that underperform buy-and-hold.

Regulatory access is limited for some jurisdictions — US users face restrictions on some strategy types due to state-level rules.

The verdict

Cryptohopper scores 4.1/5. The right choice for serious bot users — quant-oriented traders, TradingView power users, and anyone with a specific strategy they want to automate. The flexibility is real. The subscription cost is a genuine barrier to casual users.

If you’re new to bot trading, start with Pionex — free bots, no subscription, less rope to hang yourself with. If you outgrow it and know why you’re outgrowing it, come back to Cryptohopper with a specific strategy in mind.

The Verdict

Cryptohopper scores 4.1 out of 5.
