Overview

CoinStats is the portfolio tracker most serious crypto users end up using. Founded in 2017 by Narek Gevorgyan, headquartered in New York with a large development team originally based in Armenia. Started as a mobile-first portfolio app, expanded into a full platform covering portfolio tracking, DeFi position monitoring, tax reporting, and a light social/discovery layer.

The reason to use CoinStats over the built-in portfolio views on exchanges (or over free alternatives like Delta, which was acquired and effectively deprioritised) is coverage breadth. CoinStats connects to more places, tracks more DeFi protocols, and updates faster than the alternatives. If you have positions scattered across three exchanges, four wallets, two L2s, and a Lido stake, CoinStats will show you all of it in one dashboard.

Coverage and integrations

CoinStats connects to 300+ exchanges and 50+ wallets. The exchange list is comprehensive — everything you’d expect, plus the smaller and international venues that portfolio trackers often miss. Wallet integration handles the major software and hardware wallets, plus dozens of chain-specific wallets (Phantom for Solana, Trust Wallet for BNB, various L2 wallets).

DeFi position tracking is where CoinStats materially leads competitors. It tracks:

  • LP positions on Uniswap, PancakeSwap, Curve, Balancer
  • Lending positions on Aave, Compound, Morpho
  • Staking positions across Lido, Rocket Pool, Frax, Marinade
  • Yield farming across major protocols
  • Vault deposits on Yearn and similar

Position values update in real time, including for LP tokens where value calculations require handling impermanent loss and reward accrual correctly. Most portfolio trackers give up at “you have 1,000 UNI-V3-USDC-ETH tokens” — CoinStats resolves this to the underlying asset value.

The mobile-first experience

Unlike CoinTracker or Delta, which are desktop-primary with a mobile companion, CoinStats treats the phone as the primary experience. The iOS and Android apps genuinely offer the full feature set — not a stripped-down version of the web app. This matters more than you’d think for a portfolio tracker; most users check portfolio value while on the move.

Widgets, live price alerts, custom watchlists, and news feed integration all work well. Notifications for price movements, portfolio changes, or specific address activity (whale wallet tracking) can be configured granularly.

The tax module

CoinStats has added a tax reporting module. It’s competent for simple US portfolios. For serious tax filing, use Koinly or CoinLedger — this is not a replacement. But if your tax situation is genuinely simple (buy, hold, sell on a couple of exchanges), CoinStats’s included module can produce a workable Form 8949.

Pricing

  • Free — unlimited portfolios, 100 transactions history, basic alerts
  • Premium — $9.99/month, unlimited transaction history, advanced alerts, priority support
  • Degen — $49.99/month, dedicated support, custom API access, higher DeFi limits

The free tier is genuinely useful for casual users. Premium is the right tier for most serious users. Degen serves API-driven users and portfolio managers.

Where CoinStats wins

For anyone with meaningful DeFi exposure, CoinStats is the correct portfolio tracker. The LP position tracking alone justifies switching from any competitor.

For mobile-primary users, CoinStats is the best-designed option in the space. The iOS and Android apps are polished in a way most crypto apps aren’t.

The free tier is generous enough that many users will never need to upgrade — this is deliberately customer-friendly pricing that competes with the free-forever alternatives.

Where CoinStats loses

For users who only care about exchange balances (no DeFi, no self-custody wallets), CoinStats is overkill. The exchange-native dashboards or a simple spreadsheet handle this case adequately.

Tax export is functional but weaker than dedicated tax software. Don’t buy CoinStats primarily for tax; buy it for portfolio tracking and treat the tax module as a bonus.

Historical accuracy for very old positions (pre-2020) can be spotty — some historical prices are approximations, particularly for niche altcoins that had thin trading. For tax purposes, this matters; use Koinly for accurate historical cost-basis lookups.

The verdict

CoinStats scores 4.2/5. The right pick for the majority of crypto users who need a portfolio tracker — meaning almost everyone reading this. Coverage is broader than any competitor, DeFi tracking is genuinely useful, and the mobile experience is best-in-class. The free tier is generous.

If you’re using CoinMarketCap’s portfolio feature, or your exchange’s native dashboard, or a Google Sheet you update manually — CoinStats will save you time and show you positions you’d forgotten about. Start with the free tier.

The Verdict

CoinStats scores 4.2 out of 5.
